{"id":3528,"date":"2021-03-15T18:58:06","date_gmt":"2021-03-15T23:58:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.effettoitaly.com\/en\/?p=3528"},"modified":"2021-03-24T11:36:31","modified_gmt":"2021-03-24T16:36:31","slug":"i-scream-you-scream-for-gelato","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.effettoitaly.com\/en\/blog\/i-scream-you-scream-for-gelato\/","title":{"rendered":"I scream, you scream\u2026 for gelato"},"content":{"rendered":"A year-round passion in Italy<!--more--><br>\r\n\r\nWith Spring finally within reach, the rising temperatures and brighter weather increase the cravings for one of the most famous of all Italian delicacies: gelato.&nbsp; While gelato is, of course, a year-round passion in Italy, there is nothing better than enjoying the chilly treat on a warm afternoon.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>\r\n<br>\r\n\r\nWhile often referred to as &ldquo;Italian ice cream,&rdquo; there are differences.&nbsp; While the ingredients of both ice cream and gelato are roughly the same, gelato contains only 4% fat and ice cream contains 10%.&nbsp; Additionally, there are variations in texture and consistency as gelato is blended very slowly and only contains 10% air, while ice cream often contains 50%.&nbsp; Finally, gelato is kept at a warmer temperature than ice cream, which enhances the flavor.&nbsp;<br>\r\n<br>\r\n\r\nAn integral part of Italian food culture, gelato can be found in virtually every town in Italy.&nbsp; When searching out a gelateria, look for signs that say <em>gelato fatto en casa<\/em>&nbsp;(homemade),&nbsp;<em>produzione<\/em> <em>propia<\/em>&nbsp;(our own production), or&nbsp;<em>artiginale<\/em>&nbsp;(artisanal).&nbsp; In addition, try to avoid counter displays with mountainous heaps of puffed-up cream, in an array of bright and artificial colors.&nbsp; Gelato colors should be muted and reflect the natural hues of the food they represent.&nbsp;<br>\r\n<br>\r\n\r\nOrder in a cone or cup, and feel free to choose more than one flavor. Some of most popular flavors in shops are:&nbsp;<br>\r\n<br>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Chocolates:<\/strong> <em>cioccolato fondante<\/em> (dark chocolate), <em>cioccolato al latte<\/em> (milk chocolate), <em>caffe<\/em> (coffee)<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Creams:<\/strong> <em>fior di latte<\/em> (sweet cream), <em>stracciatella <\/em>(chocolate chip), <em>crema <\/em>(French vanilla)<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Fruits:<\/strong> <em>limone<\/em> (lemon), <em>fragola<\/em> (strawberry), <em>pesca<\/em> (peach)<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Nuts:<\/strong> <em>pistacchio<\/em> (pistachio), <em>mandorla<\/em> (almond), <em>nocciola<\/em> (hazelnut)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<br>\r\nThe only way to find a true favorite is to give them all a try.
