Roma via Golf Cart
By: Effetto Italy On: August 1, 2019 In: Independent Travel
Foodies flock to Rome for some of the best cuisine in the country and often desire a local’s expertise. We know that nothing beats an exclusive and private food tour of Rome. And what could be better than zipping around the historic center in a golf cart with a home-grown food expert? Recently, a couple of our FIT clients, gave the golf cart a whirl.Meg Stewart and Terry Rooney were looking for something off the beaten path that would combine some fun sightseeing with their love for food. Both are seasoned travelers with an expertise in wine. They were met at their hotel in the morning by Danieli, their English-speaking guide and fellow gastro aficionado. After cruising by such sights as the Colosseum and the Jewish Ghetto, they stopped at a shop for a true Italian breakfast of almond and ricotta pastry. Next, they carted through glorious Baroque Rome: Piazza Farnese, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain. In different piazzas, Danieli would magically make a tasting table appear with local delights… the freshest mozzarella, hard to find Italian wines, just baked pane, olives, and olive oils.
Next, they found themselves in the heart of Renaissance Rome, in one of the fines grocery shops in town. With hanging meats and cheeses everywhere they looked, they sampled charcuterie from all across Italy and washed it down with more local wine. The day’s grand finale came in the form of a selection of pizze and followed by the creamiest, housemade gelato. Both raved about the food, the guide and of course, the fun of seeing it all via Golf Cart!
